The Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) with head office in Dortmund was formed on 01.07.1996 as a public law institute without legal capacity. The BAuA is an authority within the portfolio of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.

As a pool of competence and a knowledge service provider in matters of safety and health at work, they offer advice and practical assistance to companies, government, the social partners and the general public . They research, analyse, inform, publish, co-ordinate, develop, train and advise to help bring about a humane world of work with safe, healthy and competitive workplaces.

The tour of the institute will include a viewing of DASA, the German Occupational Safety and Health Exhibition. The DASA was opened in 1993 as part of the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, and the 13.000 m² exhibition area was completed in time for the World Exhibition "EXPO 2000". The exhibition examines the changing world of work and how competitiveness, social compatibility and sustainability fit into the equation of occupational safety and health. The German Occupational Safety and Health Exhibition (DASA) is a place to visit for an educational experience. Information can be found here about the world of work and its importance in society.

Decent Work Country Programmes

Decent Work Country Programmes (DWCPs) have been established as the main vehicle for delivery of ILO support and assistance to member States. DWCPs have two baation and put them at the service
of the Organization‘s tripartite constituents in a results-based framework to advance the Decent Work Agenda within the fields where the ILO has a clear comparative advantage. Thus, tripartism sic objectives: They promote decent work as a key component of national development strategies; and they make available ILO knowledge, instruments, expertise, advocacy and cooperand social dialogue are central to the design and implementation of a coherent and integrated ILO programme of assistance to constituents in member States, emphasizing also the ratification and implementation of International Labour Standards (ILS).

Effective implementation even only of the 10 „Core“ human rights – focused ILS
at national levels requires not only good DW policies, but also effective monitoring and supervision mechanisms to ensure full compliance with the body of national labour legislation that gives effect to them. That is why the International Association for Labour Inspection, IALI, has a fundamental interest in cooperating closely with the ILO – and vice versa – to promote better labour inspection worldwide: through policies, institutions, and practice, for better implementation
of DWCPs priorities and programmes, reflecting the strategic framework of the ILO, adapted to national situations and priorities. Strengthening labour inspection systems and services worldwide, and sharing best-practice experience: the declared aim of IALI, thus also directly helps ILO and its memberStates to fully realize their common global objectives.
